Hey all....

I recently decided to switch from my CalRX to APEX DOS to handle my cal and alk needs. I just took my CalRx offline and installed the DOS. My questions is, what should I start with as a daily dosage amount that is safe? I have it setup currently to dose 5ml of each for my 120g tank. I obviously don't know my cal and alk consumption so I don't was to nuke my tank. Your thoughts??

In my opinion you want to know the tanks consumption before you start dosing more. I would start by testing my alk and calcium daily for a few days to a week and then base my dosing amount on that with the brs calculator. Best of luck

Thanks. My Alk & Cal are tested 4 times daily via a Trident. I’m just trying to avoid a major swing in Alk while I make the change.

It's best if you know the alk demand in dKH per day.

Otherwise, just pick a lowish dose (say, 0.5 dKH per day) and adjust by trial and error from there.

With a trident in place it’s pretty easy to get a good baseline. I would run tests every 2-4hrs just for a day and create a dosing schedule following the consumption. Although it can change every day when I did this my baseline stays pretty on point with a dkh variation of .5-.1

Here’s how I ended up dialing in my schedule. This allows me to increase and decrease just certain sections to match new demands. 1FF7D62D-91DD-4D24-8E96-7D50999F23D8.jpeg
The gap @3am is for calcium/mag dosing leaving 40ish minutes before alk resumes again
