i believe its been done, take a peek at the hydros forums. There is a write up to do flow measurement with hydros using gredia flow sensors off amazon ($20 and threaded so you dont need special unions).
the apex sensors are still just hall effect sensors (if i remember correctly), you just need to verify the scaling. hydros can read them on a sense port
