In the new fusion you can give friends different access levels to your apex.. There is view only which is look but no touch. Then the next level is view and control(perfect for tank sitter) then next level is view and control(perfect for maintenance people and their customers) and last is owner which can dictate who can have what privileges.

Another thing is if your having trouble programming something you could give access so some could write the code for you. Also if you want to know how some has their stuff set up they give you access and you can see how its done in their end.. And copy code and paste it into your apex.
