You dont have too =) you can buy a cheap little gameing adapter/router. Also i would get the gold, comes with a pm2 and conductivity + orp probe that you will find very very usefull for the extra money

Thanks Sabellafella
are you running apex?

Yup, whats funny is i first bought the jr(on frag tank), then bought the standard that i wound up buying the pm2 plus a probe(on dt at my parents house), and on my new tank got the gold lol

Gold all the way. you'll regret anything less. Many people try to save the money and usually spend more than the gold by pricing it together after the fact.

Go for the gold o_O You will probably regret it if you don't. Even getting gold there's still stuff you may want/need. Over time I ended up adding another EB8, temp probe for PM2 salinity module, PM1 with PH and temp probe for CaRx, probe holder, leak detection and WXM for vortechs.

Get whatever you can afford.

Orp is optional and not super important if you dont use ozone.

Conductvity I had, its worthless dont bother.

Yes I use orp to control ozone so thats key for me. As far as the conductivity probe being worthless that's just wrong. It's probably worthless if you can't do a simple calibration and keep the probe protected from micro bubbles. If present micro bubbles will accumulate on the probe and significantly affect readings. Mine was calibrated once, close to two years ago, and while its protected from micro bubbles it matches my calibrated refractometer. But like I always say I use it for monitoring and don't recommend for any kind of salinity control.

Well, if you habe it set up properly then it can fuction fine. Like you said microbubbles interfere. But so does electrical interference, bacterial coatings, algae growth, emf. Lol. Thats why i was dissapointed with mine. But if it works for you, consider yourself lucky. One thing it can be good for though, like you said, is detecting rapid changes, and have it text you or automatically shut off top off.

Trust me I have had some harsh words for Apex and support but I try to be fair. Bubbles were the only issue I had with the conductivity probe but I also have a titanium ground rod in the sump. Orp was berserk for a while and eventually it was determined to be bio film that came from the product I used to cycle the tank. Literally had to clean it in vinegar every few days. Never had an issue with 2x PH or 3x temp.

I just saw an email come through from Bulk Reef Supply the Apex Gold is $100 off. Not sure how long that lasts but figured I'd pass it along.

Too funny just got an email from Champion for the same thing so everyone is doing it. I always get suspicious of these type sales of never discounted MAP items. Just clearing overstock or for a new product announcement?

Go for the gold, it everything you are going to need with lab grade probes instead of adding at a greater expense later on. I ran a cat 5 cable from my router up the wall(so that I do not ever have to run a cable to do firmware update), through the ceiling down another wall and wired the outlet for about $30. it is simple to do, except the attic thing. I am 6'5" and crawling around a tight attic make me wish I had a child around:)
