Is anybody getting more than 2 years of life out of their Apex head unit. At 4.5 years my second Apex head unit is dead. Does anybody have any other systems they would recommend?

Which apex are you talking about? I don't recall exactly when in 2016 the current model was released, but it has only been about 4 years. I bought mine not long after release to replace a classic lite and it's been going strong ever since. I bought the classic lite around 2011, so got 5 years out of it before selling. Don't know if its is still running or not.
Curious what kinds of problems you are having? I did have some e4arly problems with the new version when it lost power. I now have it on it's own power supply connected to an UPS.

More then likely your having moisture issues.
