Hi, I'm running a Apex Jr on my 180 gallon fish only system. And over the last few days the temp readings are very erratic ( 76.2-81.1 ). The probe is mounted in my sump witch holds about 35 gallons of water. Had the Apex for about 6 weeks. Funny I bought the Apex because I didn't trust all those cheap thermometers. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or had any ideas. I'll try to call Neptune in the morning.

Thanks

could be a bad probe? Did you calibrate it? What are parameters do you have set for the heater to turn on / off?

I did not calibrate it, I was not as concerned about the temp just need it stable ( but the temps are close ). I didn't get a chance to call them yet. Heaters on at 77.0 off at 77.5 and with the lights and pumps it stays around 77.9. And I'm running 2 300 watt heaters on one channel. And it's fine for a month or so.

Couple of questions. Is the probe always submerged or does the water level fluctuate? What is your program, are you using the Apex to regulate the heaters or just act as a fail safe?

The probe is covered completely, the apex controls the heaters, the heaters are set on 80 and the apex shuts them off at 77.5

I haven't really had that problem with my Apex, but I also keep the temp probe located inside my internal overflow box. I feel like if it is in there the actual temp is closer to the tanks true water temp without looking tacky dangling inside the display. I would double check it with your chiller display; if you have one a good-old-fashion glass floating thermometer to double check any digital display. You might also check to make sure both heaters are properly submerged since this can cause 1 or both of them to turn on and off depending how deep they are in the water. My refugium usually runs about .5-1.5 degrees warmer than my main display, probably from all the pumps. Hope this helps.
