Hey Everybody,

So I'm interested in getting an Apex system (finally!). But I'm curious, what is the differences between the Jr., Classic, and Gold?

I want to get a model that it Wifi capable and I can connect the ph, salinity, and temperature probes and be able to hook up AI Hydras, Scotch MP40s, and at some point an Apex ATO and Auto feeder.

Thanks for everybody's help, and please excuse my inexperience with Apex!

The Jr, is quite limited and only really for a small system. I think the gold was just a promo package - it was the classic brain and energy bar with some other stuff thrown in if memory serves. I am unsure whether the classic or new 2016 model can be run wirelessly since I always connect them with Ethernet; but all the other stuff can be done. Keep in mind that as new modules come out, they may not all be backwards compatible with the classic. Right now that's just the EB832 and forthcoming trident, but there's likely to be more.

Apex Jr comes with the head unit integrated with 4 outlets, display module, temp probe and allows up to 6 additional modules to be hooked up to it. The Apex Classic comes with the head unit, display module, EB8 (8 outlet power bar), temp & pH probes and allows for 200+ additional modules. The Apex Gold is just the Apex Classic with the addition of an ORP probe a PM2 module and salinity (conductivity) probe. All of these versions can be set up for WiFi with the purchase of a WiFi gaming adapter, however, hard wiring with an Ethernet cable is much preferred for reliability’s sake IMO. However, as Simon stated above, these are not compatible with the new EB832 and Trident.

The 2016 New Apex is the latest generation of the Apex controller. It has the salinity monitoring and salinity (conductivity) probe connection integrated into the head unit without the need for the separate PM2 module. It omes with built in WiFi, temp, pH, ORP and salinity (conductivity) probes. It also comes with the new EB832 power bar with has built in power monitoring, 3 1Link connections and a couple of 24vDC connections. It will also support the forthcoming Trident Alk, Ca & Mg monitor. The display module is not included in the base package. All prior generation Apex modules can be used with the New Apex.
