Apex or Hydros Wave Engine

I need to control a couple of icecap gyres that i picked up without a controller. So i can buy the icecap controller for $99 and it looks like I'll get some simple control out of it. Then I came across a hydros wave engine that looks like It would give a lot more control of the pumps. What i'm wondering is if i could get the same control of the pump from my apex by itself without the wave engine. Can I use the pumps directly with the apex or would i still need the icecap controller in addition? I would not need to buy the apex - already have it sitting here.

So to recap:
1. buy the icecap controller $99
2. buy the hydros wave engine $300 - $350
3. just use the apex

I believe there is a icecap module for them to be controlled via apex but I may be wrong and im sure someone will chime in to give you the answer.
