Hello, I’ve been culturing tigger and apex pods in 5g buckets. My tiger pods are teeming but my apex pods not so much. I keep both buckets the same way and a little puzzled as to what could be wrong. Some thoughts:
1) I initially started the apex pods in a white bucket and the tiger in a red. Is it true that white buckets don’t breed pods as well? I’ve since changed them to a red bucket.
2) the tiger bucket does not get much debris/ mulm on the sides whereas the apex bucket gets a ton coating the bottom and sides. Am I over feeding or is this normal? The apex pod bucket does seem to clarify over the course of 24 hours but I’m always wondering if the phyto is just settling.
3). I use the same exact flow for both (1-2 bubbles/sec), do apex pods require a diff flow?
4). When cleaning I leave all the mulm for both buckets. Should I perhaps clean the apex pod bucket better? I’m always worried about tossing eggs and juvis so I leave a good portion of water and mulm between changes.
5). This seems kinda like a dumb question, but I should be seeing a ton of adults, yes? My tiger bucket literally has hundreds swimming around at the surface when I feed but the apex bucket always looks the same. I can see adults but at a pretty low rate (esp when compared to the tigger pod)
any and all help would be appreciated. I can provide whatever other info is needed. Looking to culture apex for repeatedly seeding pods in the tank with a mandarin (wanted to do this for like 15 years!). Thanks!
