Just got the apex, set everything up, calibrated the probes, all went well, except my salinity is reading 12.1. Anyone know why this would be happening?

Hey good question it's not the actual salinity it's the conductivity of the salt, so let's say it reads 12.1 but when you check with a refractor or w/e you use to check salt says 1.026 your probe will say like 12 or 30 or what ever it's calibrated at.

Also is the probe calibrated using the solution what solution packet did you use is the probe showing the same number as the packet ? Is it working first of all?

I calibrated it and it said it was all complete then I threw out the packet:(

My water is definitely 1.025. Just wondering if I missed something setting it up. Otherwise I'll have to call them monday

Okay listen just for now refer to 12.1 being 1.025 ... because the main thing of this is reference usually 33-34 is where I have mine at if it goes above 35 or lower then 32 I get a alert so, manually calibrate the alert to 12 being normal and above 14 or below 11 being a alert . Calling them won't solve anything from your situation he won't be able to help you to know if its working etc.... you will be to reorder a Salinity solution from there which the exact conductivity number . But while your at that I would order PH solutions as well! Because it's recommended to recalibrate every few months the probes in order to know if there on par.

Sometimes those probes can be touchy...especially the salinity probe. I had to calibrate mine several times before it was reading accurately. If you know your water is 1.025, you could always try calibrating it with that. You also have the compensation setting which allows you to make fine adjustments.

I have been using an apex for over a year now, 1 on my tank and 1 on another tank i manage at the school. But salinity probes read a constant 30 but when i test with digital refractometer its 1.026. Everyone is saying 35 should equal 1.026 but on my tanks that is not the case.

Plus, does it really matter? No. You are just looking for trends anyway.

No, it doesn't matter at all....as long as you know that 30 = 1.026 on your Apex, you just watch for that consistent level of 30.

YEa, but I feel like for $800 the system should be accurate.

I would feel the exact same way. For $800 it should be reading in SG or at least ppt. But it's actually not far off of ppt conversion. What is it reading in TDS? I obviously don't have an Apex.

The only controller I NEED is my American Marine Pinpoint Temp controller that keeps my tank within 1 degree F.

Does up to 700 watts for heaters and also can regulate up to a 1/2hp chiller at the same time if you need. Or you could plug a fan(s) into the cold port instead. One of the best high-end purchases I've made for my tank.
