Apex salinity reading spiking

I have the Apex EL, and I keep getting alarms for salinity being too low. I check the app and it says it is SUPER low and it happens very sporadically. I have never had this problem but the actual salinity seems fine when checking with my refractometer, but the Apex probe is completely freaking out. Any suggestions?

Make sure your probe is not where any micro bubbles could be. Some people mount their probe almost upside down, to eliminate the chance of bubbles getting trapped.

Maybe separate the probe from anything electrical if you can (to eliminate any interference) though i didn’t get any benefit from this myself.


Many people have issues with their Salinity probe, just the nature of the beast it seems.
They even sell a kit specifically to stabilize the reading, you use a little pump to provide a solid and constant stream of water to the tip of the probe.

any chance your ATO could be triggering it? Somehow? Just a shot in the dark.

I agree. Check to be sure your ATO does not add water right upstream from it.

Those downward spikes in salinity from 35 to 33 are not real changes in the tank water.

I had same issue , I cleaned the probe and moved it into high flow area along with making sure when you insert it into the water - the air trap is on the top and probe is at an angle - and do it a few times to make sure it doesn’t have air trapped
