SG probe issues.

New user

My calibrated Milwaukee SG reads 1.027/35 PPT but this is what my Apex probe reads. Anyway to manually calibrate it? I've already used the calibration fluid to calibrate last night.

I tired to calibrate it wit the tank water and it's worse.

I cleaned the probe with RO and dried it very good. Calibrated again this time using my tank water in a small glass sitting in my tank water for temp.

Calibrating it with tank water won't work... You need to buy calibration solution. When you get it, float the sealed baggie in your tank / sump, to get it up to temperature, then pop it open, and perform the calibration.

I ordered some more. Smh

Ahhh, I missed the part that you already used calibration fluid. Sorry, reading on my phone at the moment.

Hmm... It could be a bad probe then. I would reach out to Neptune, and see if they can either troubleshoot, or replace it. A couple of dumb questions though:

Has your Milwaukee been calibrated?

Are you covering the sample plate while performing the reading, in order to avoid stray light?

My Milwaukee is calibrated. Also use another source.

Yes it was covered. I closed the package around it.

I'd say there's something out of wack with the probe then. Those Milwaukees are pretty bulletproof, especially since you cross checked. Give Neptune a shout, or whomever you bought it from. More than likely, they can just send you a replacement probe.

Not sure how you calibrated it but the tip with regards to floating it in the sump and/or tank to reach temperature equilibrium is important. Also when I went to do my calibration I came across a similar issue and found a few tips on the Neptune forums. In fact if you can let the calibration fluid float for 30 minutes it is best. Also note the temperature Neptune's fluid is at, I think 77 degree's. So closer you can get to that temp when calibrating the better off you will be or so the forums suggest. Lastly, enable the temp correction.

Only other thing I've found is try and not get air bubbles in the probe during calibration. You may have to hold it at an angle along with the bag so they will get out in the probes slots. Neptune forums have a few threads because many of us ran into similar issues when doing this oddly enough.

Good timing. I received my new calibration packets today. Floated it for about an hour and it is now reading correctly.

Oddly enough I originally followed Terrance "set up in 15 minutes" video to the "T." What's up with that? Smh

I just finished calibrating it and it's pretty accurate.

Mine was acting up until I finally thought to shake it a little bit and it’s fine since. Guess I had some bubbles trapped

Anyone know if you can erase old data from Apex fusion? Example the old SG readings?

My SG prob be was reading inaccurately as well. I originally had it situated in the fuge compartment of my sump. I was getting a few micro bubbles from my skimmer on it, and that was causing it read inaccurate. I’ve since moved it to my return section, and it reads perfectly now.

I usually give it a shake when im under the stand changing filter socks or whatever just to get any little bubble out. just part of my routine now.
