Apex shut off heater but never turned back on

Maybe a newbie question here, but thought I had this set up but maybe not...?

I run my heaters through an inkbird temperature controller and use the apex unit as a fall back.

Everything was working fine for over a month since hooked up, but today I was at work and got a temp alarm which shut off my heater.

came home to find that the water was cold 72 and the apex did not turn the outlet to the heater back on. Checked my settings and it was set to turn on if temperature drops below 75... off it it goes above 81. I had to manually go into the apex settings to turn the outlet back on.

checked the inkbird, and settings were accurate.

curious if someone smarter than me understands this a bit better and why this would’ve happened?

Thanks for the reply. See attached. Grabbed this from my phone app since it easier to screen shot. If I need to go on the actual desktop I will.

it’s going to be something I did wrong I am sure of it... just don’t want this to happen again.

It’s because you have it set to not turn on until the temp reaches 75. Your heaters probably couldn’t keep up with the ambient room temp. If it were me I would set it to only turn off if the temp got too high. Use the advance tab and use his programming:


Set On
If temp > 82.0 then off

This will always keep the outlet on unless it gets above 82.0. Then shuts it of until the temp drops below 82.0. Then let the ink bird handle the temp via it’s setting.

Thanks. Figured it was a stupid setting thing I missed. . So because it was sitting at 72, the current setting said don’t turn on til it hits 75, and because it never got there and was sitting below it wasn’t on...? Is that correct in me interpreting what you said?

Thanks for the help. On the main Dash, do I want the toggle to be "Auto" or switched to "On" sorry for all the questions, but you apparently know more than me!

Set it to auto. That will allow it to turn off if the temp gets above 82.0 per the program code. If you put an outlet in the on position it will always be on, never run the program.
