I currently have an ACIII that I have been using for about 4 years now. I am considering upgrading to the Apex System. This is what I currently have:

Aquacontroller 3
AquaSurf (to control my 2 Tunze 6055 Powerheads)
Probe Expansion PX1000 (Need a second pH probe for my CA Reactor)
Direct Connect 8
Direct Connect 4 Heavy Duty

Probes:

2 pH Probes (tank and CA reactor)
1 ORP Probe (not necessary, only have it because I had space for it)
1 temp Probe

Controlling:
3 light ballasts
1 moon light
1 refugium light
1 return pump
1 calcium Reactor feed pump
1 calcium Reactor CO2 feed
2 heaters
1 fans
1 protien skimmer
2 Tunze 6055 powerheads (not plugged in to a direct connet, only the aqua surf)

What would I need to purchase so that a new Apex system would do everything that I am currently doing now? Also ORP is not necessary if it requires an extra purchase other than an ORP Probe.

Thanks

I don't think that you need to buy anything else. The Apex has built-in variable speed ports, so you don't need the AquaSurf. It will handle two pH probes (or a pH and an ORP) and a temp probe, so you're good there. It comes with an EB8, but it can also control the DC8 and DC4 HD, so you have more room than you did before.

Thanks CJ. That is good news. Now I only have to convince my wife to let me spent $500.

Also, do I gain anything by getting an EB4 instead of keeping the DC4?

The only advantage I know of is that the Apex can detect amperage draw on the EB4, but not the DC4. Also, if you want to run two pH probes, be sure to get the Apex and not the Apex Lite. The Apex Lite only allows for one pH probe unless you add the PM1.

While the ability to detect amperage draw is interesting, I don't think it warrents an extra $110 up front. Maybe down the line.

Thanks again for the help.
