I want to add a controller to my system (Reefer 250) and looking at Apex and GHL Profilux. Any recommendations or either or and any other ones you may be using?

What do you want the controller to do? How computer or DIY do you want to be?

I just want to be able to monitor everything with ease...I am a full time student at CSUS so anything that would help me be more successful in my reefing would be awesome

Both controller is good. Apex is more popular tho. So if you have a problem or question about an apex issue, more people can help you. Also a lot easier to get parts for apex. Just my 2 cents.

I'll definitely will have to do some more research... thanks

I have a ghl profilux 3 ultimate package for sale brand new. $850 shipped

In Europe GHL is more common among aquarists. I have run different Profilux 3 constellations for many years and are very satisfied with the advanced functions of this computer. I haven’t run Apex so I can´t compare. However – I know one function GHL/profilux have that Apex do not have – the possibility to (in an easy way) measure and control negative redox values. Important if you run a denitrification filter and want to manage and control this.

Sincerely Lasse

@d2mini has a ghl and pretty much as i understand it shares the opinion that @Reeferfourlife expressed. Just not as popular as apex. Although recently ghl set up shop in the US which means they're gonna be much more aggressive with the market here and things might change in the near future. I personally have no experience with ghl but I'm extremely happy with my apex and if i was buying now I'd buy the new apex coming out. The improvement with the energy bar is tremendous, being able to monitor individual outlets is invaluable. All in all i think you'd be happy with either...

I've always preferred GHL.
It's the top end of controllers. Better built/engineered and from everything I've seen and experienced, more reliable. They just don't fail. There have been some issues with screens going bad but that's easily fixable and won't crash your tank.
And now with the USA based warehouse and online store, as well as several of our sponsor vendors selling GHL, no more issues getting parts.

The user base is much smaller with Apex being more popular so yes, sometimes you need a little patience getting questions answered.
GHL has always been the easiest to program with no programming language to learn. The PC software (no mac, you have to use bootcamp or parallels) uses pull down menus, tab menus, radio buttons/check boxes, and input fields. Want to set your temp to 78? Just type "78" in the corresponding field. Want a hysteresis of 0.3 degrees? Type ".3" in the corresponding field.
GHL also designs/produces every component they use. No rebranding.

If you don't need all the bells and whistles, they just came out with some "Light" versions of their controller.

Thanks! Sucks that there's no Mac software for GHL...I'll definitely have to look into the Light version and see what's more suitable for my needs/wants. To be honest I had never seen or heard of GHL until I started following your new build! ha

I use Parallels to program my doser 2 and the slave units on my MacBook Pro and the iOS app for the pump. haven't had a need for a controller yet as I don't travel a lot and there is always someone home to call be if something goes wrong. I use Ecotech lights and powerheads so Ecotech Live works for them and I really don't mess with pump and light settings alot.

I've been using GHL products including the Profilux for 9 years. Simply put, if you want true reliability go with GHL. Not once have I experienced any of my GHL equipment failing. The products are much easier to obtain now that the US branch is up and running. Support is also improved!

Thanks, I also use Ecotech products but my Reef Link fails a lot.

Thanks, do you know if GHL products are capable with Ecotech products?

Is your Reeflink on Ethernet found when mine was on WiFi it was a problem. I have a power ethernet on my TV so I plugged my Reeflink into it and boom blue light city.
