With API Copper test, when checking color from above, are you suppose to place the vial down on the white portion of the color chart or slightly lift it above and compare? Because color difference is drastic from one to the other.

The instructions are a bit vague but to me suggest holding the vial slightly above the white section of the card to allow light to reflect up from the bottom.
Not all agree, however. But most agree you need bright white light.
One good suggestion is to mix a known therapeutic solution in a bucket, test and use that color for your QT.

Brightly lit room. Hold the vial slightly above the white color chart. Also try squinting your eyes as you compare the colors.

Natural Sunlight or Very Bright room is best. I also calculate how much copper to dose (Over extended period of time) Based on however many gallons you are dosing, then test once reached the amount that is supposed to be therapeutic to make sure there was no absorption. Kind of a double check! SMO's Recommendation also helpful. Gives you an actual test tube to compare instead of the card! Good luck!
