API GC v Praziquantel and metronidazole

due to my location, I have been unable to purchase name brand meds and have instead gotten just the active ingredients. For example: No API General Cure. A blend of Praziquantel and metronidazole instead.

I know that API General Cure can be added to food or dosed into the water column. The website I purchased my blend from made no mention of mixing with food. Because there are no additives, just the active ingredients, I’m concerned about doing anything outside of the recommendations the product came with. FROM EXPERIENCE, can praziquantel and metronidazole be given orally and, if so, how long/how often. Thx

Just went through this. What I did was dose prazi-pro and metro on day 1. Then mixed metro + focus along with garlic gaurd and Vita chem with my pellet food and froze it. On day 3 you dose metro again, day five? Metro again. Day 7 you dose prazi and metro, day 9 metro, day eleven metro, day 13 metro, and then you should be out of the water for internal and external parasites. While all that is going on, you're feeding your home mix of food to get to any internal parasites as well.

This method needs to be done in a qt tank as all of that isn't good for inverts/corals. Also don't forget about your fallow period in DT if this isn't a qt for new friends.

I can't say for sure that you can dose both in the water and in the food. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

GC contains both prazi and metro, so I would think that the meds you have will also be able to work in place of that. I have read that when treating for internal ailments, seachem focus is highly recommend as it will bind the meds with the food so that it gets where it needs to go. Good luck!

Prazi-pro is praziquantenal along with oxybispropanal which is an inert solvent. Extra oxygen is needed when using anything with oxybispropanal.

What is the ratio of praziquantel to metronidazole in your bulk container? The mix in a packet of GC is 75 mg of praziquantel to 250 mg of metronidazole.

For GC the feeding regime is as follows: one scoop (scoop comes in a package of Seachem's Focus) of GC and one scoop of Focus and add it to 1 tablespoon of (thawed) frozen or pellet food. If using pellets then use a small amount of water in the mix. Let soak in the meds for at least 20 minutes before feeding. Keep the remainder in the fridge for a few days until used up. Keep doing this for a minimum of 10 days, though it will likely take longer since some intestinal worms can be stubborn.
