API Nitrate Test Kit

I stumbled on some information online that says to divide my results by 4.4, is this true, and why?

I haven't heard that. I'd say it's better to assume the nitrates are higher than they are than to err the other way.

with the nitrate test kit i find its crucial to follow the instructions. when shaking bottle #2 i usually hit it on a counter top a few times then shake for 30 seconds. also don;t forget to shake the test tube with both solutions in it for a full minute. i watch a clock when doing this. if not it does not give me accurate readings...

Yeah, I do 5ml water in tube, add 10 drops of #1, cap and shake twice. Take #2 and shake it like my life depends on it for about 45-60 seconds. Add 10 drops, then cap and shake tube for 60 seconds. Wait 5 minutes and read results.

Ime your reasons should be accurate. I've tested api against red sea to confirm.

So there is no need to divide the result, so I'm hovering arounf 25 atm. I will be doing another WC on Sunday, and I will continue to feed lightly and test again Monday.

im not sure. i keep my nitrates at 0 ppm according to my api test, this is the first ive read about the total nitrate vs nitrate nitrogen. since my goal is zero it doesnt really matter about the dividing. i have to look into total nitrate vs nitrate nitrogen some more.

Thats because they stink. There are better ones out there.

I've been using API for 4yrs for nitrate, nitrites, ammonia and High end PH. Very successfully!

I've used it for a long time too. As long as I've followed the directions exactly, I've had no problem.
