API vs NYOS nitrate, which one is correct?

API says nitrate is 10ppm.

NYOS says nitrate is less than 1 ppm.

API and NYOS both tested 5ppm when the NYOS kit was new.

Full disclosure: the powder part of the NYOS test got moist and a little clumpy because the spoon was moist. It was a little moist during last week's test but it still read 5ppm last week.

I did the NYOS test twice.

I have another set of API nitrate reagents, should I test again with those?

Is my NYOS test ruined?

I don’t trust API and have never used NYOS.. I would guess your NYOS may be compromised if it got wet, if you need to buy a new test kit I would suggest salifert for consistent accurate test results.

I hated the NYOS kit!

Used 3 different kit's because I bought 3 at a time because they were supposed to be the latest and greatest, and I always buy multiple test kits just incase one is wonky. Only when my coral started dying out did I get a Red Sea Nitrate Pro and actually found out my nitrates were above 20. While all 3 NYOS kits showed me less then 5ppm.

A lot of people don't like API, but from what I understand they are accurate, just not high in resolution.

I think I will buy a salifert nitrate test now. My guess is that it will be close to the NYOS test. I'll report back.

Just got the Salifert test in. Appears to be close to 10, since API also read 10 I'm going to say that it's 10ppm.

Guess my NYOS kit "went bad". Probably because I got the powdered reagent moist. Odd thing is that the Salifert powder looked a little clumpy right after opening. We'll see how it holds up.
