So I was moving around my live rock and seen this on my rock. Looks to be a sponge. Is this a good sponge or not so good? Cause any problems?

Thank you. I thought I seen somewhere that some sponge is invasive. It's OK with me just didn't want to end up with a tank full.

There is a school of thought that until sponges are established in a tank, that SPS corals will not thrive. Be it what they consume, exude, or be it just a matter of timing, there seems to be a complementary existence.

I think it may have been some work by A. Calfo I remember reading, and/or some old Coral magazine article. I'll try and find a reference or two.

Yes big deddy, good.

Maybe some experts can chime in on the idea.

Well my 4 year old son says it's sponge bob. The sea cucumber is plankton. And turbo snail is Gary. Needless to say he likes sponge bob

When I set up my 210g last year I reused some live rock from the old display and hiding among the rocks were some beautiful purple sponges. Unfortunately they got too much light in the new display and faded away over a month or too. Or perhaps the new setup wasn't mature enough to keep them. Either way I wish I could have maintained them. The lfs store has a sky blue sponge in their display and it's been slowly failing over the last few months. Usually the sponges don't do well in new tanks or high lighting but are welcome additions to my tanks.

The live rock I have came straight out of a 120 that was being taken down. The guy had a lot of stuff he sold. Really nice guy. Very knowledgeable on marine setup and care. I bought all the live rock and small frags. Also got sea cucumber, 2 clowns, brittle star. He said there might be some sponge on some of the rock. My wife aquascaped it so I hadn't seen sponge. Actually she never noticed it neither. But if it is good for reef them I am happy to have it.
