We just bought this purple long tentacle anemone last week. We are not quite sure if anything is going wrong as to the fact that we are new to corals and trying to understand them. Anywho, the tentacles seem to be getting thinner and a tad brown at the tips, white at the base, and isn't flourishing as much as it had been. Photo shown below...

First off, nems are inverts not coral. No offense, just informing you. 
my opinion is lighting is not bright enough to hold that purple color. It will do ok just not as pretty. Could be water quality too. But my guess is lighting.

I had thought it was a coral! I appreciate that. [emoji4] We think it is the water quality because we just found out nitrates are high. A water change will be performed soon. Would this help brighten the color? It was a beautiful color when we bought it. I had read that if it was unhappy, it would move around the tank but it hasn't the last few days so that would indicate it is comfortable?

Nitrates unless they are out the roof would not be the issue here

Well that would be of no concern. Actually if it was .25 it may be too low.
No3 is needed in some form for zooxanthellae algae. (Which we see as color or brown) Its food to it.
