APS G2 Skimmer replacement outflow

I got a APS G2 used with my 93 cube. got it setup and running and realized i'm missing the adjustment tube to tune the skimmer. looks like its just a peice of 1 1/4 in pvc? if I just go grab a chunk from home depot will that work?

the outflow pipe fits inside a 1 1/4 pipe so a standard 1 1/4 didn't work. I just orderd the parts to do a gatevalve mod.
