Hi there, new to the forum here. Currently running a 200 litre cube reef tank with largely softies and LPS.

I purchased a rasta zoa frag a couple of weeks ago and noticed it has some tiny Aptasia embedded in the colony. What do people suggest for removing? Will they harm the colony if not removed?

Welcome to R2R!! Aptasia embedded in zoanthids are almost impossible to manually remove without causing them to spread.. the best thing IMO are Berghia Nudibranch's for this sort of infestation.

Welcome! I recommend using coral glue and seal them. Just cover them up in completely.

And if you can, put it into a separate tank so you can observe and make sure you got them all. Aiptasia spread quickly and if you caught it early enough you could save yourself a future headache to get while it’s isolated.

Hi! I was in a similar position as you, I bought a neon green toadstool and noticed a small Aiptasia at the base. I made it retreat into its hole then I sealed it with super glue. I Made sure the entire hole was covered and I havent seen it since.
As for removeing pests in zoas, I have removed vermetids from between a small patch of zoas. I basted the zoas lightly to make them close up then broke the tube of and sealed it with glue. The problem with aiptasia is that it will retract as soon as the zoas does and when hiding its really hard to see.
Good luck with yours!
