There is a single Aptasia that popped up on a piece of dead rock I have!

Center of pic! I have had this tank up for several months. Have corals in it, and have not seen a single one! This is so frustrating. Dang it!

I would just apstasia X that out of there. But changes are you have some hidden somewhere in the tank.

If you're able to, take the rock out and scrape it off, and put superglue or epoxy over the spot where it was to prevent it from growing back and hope that was the only one :)

No big deal. Have to go ninja on those little suckers. apstasia X make sure no flow when using. More like a surgical strike then a carpet bombing run :)Get it right in their mouth if you miss they will spew out their spawn. Usually after a session of hunting you will end up with a few that have released. that’s why it’s important to have a few peppermint shrimp to clean up.

Ugh! I know this is the answer but I also know that this was bleached dead rock when I cycled my tank. That means there has to be one somewhere else that I can’t see that spread a baby somehow.

So frustrated! I may just try and get another piece of rock about the same shape and pull the corals off and put them on the new rock. At least they are LPS and that’s easy enough, I just don’t know where this ******* child came from, he has to have a parent somewhere.

Mine can of a small colony of zoas that I bought from a vender here. That was my fault tho I don't blame them. I now QT everything that goes on.
Good luck hunting.

I buy my saltwater from my LfS, it is possible that it came in on a water change. I would assume his premixed saltwater comes from a separate holding from his big system, there are definitely some Aptasia in his tanks.

I don't think it's possible to manage a tank without running into apstasia, could come in on a frag, the base of one of your LPS, Who knows.

Turn your pumps and powerheads off. Cover it with Kalkwasser paste the consistance of toothpaste

15 minutes later blow the paste off and restart your pumps/powerheads

Get some peppermint shrimp. I thought there was only one and it seem like everytime I went to kill one I found more. I bought 2 peppermint shrimp and they completely nuked the aiptasia population.

I'd remove the rock to deal with the aptasia. Injecting it will more than likely cause an outbreak. Been there.

Been there as well. Really need to make sure they are removed. There always seems to be a nodule left that the aptasia can regrow from if they're just "killed" by injecting. Plus, they can release spawn once stressed.

Laser...not only effective but fun
Please explain this laser thing... What kind of laser are we talking here? In my mind shooting a laser into water is a bad idea. It could refract and damage your eyes if I'm not mistaken...we all need to know these things.

As far as the aptasia removal goes, I vote take the rock out scrape it off glue over top and replace rock.

Safety gear. But high powered lasers do definitely do work.

I purchased a frag of zoas (1 inch) , and after a week I notice 6 or 7 tiny aptasia on it. The zoas won't open up, but they were open at the LFS. The aptasia are all over the small frag. Should I even try aptasia X or Joe's juice on it? the entire frag is covered in them. I immediately put it in a zip lock bag and floated it so they won't spread. they all disappear into their holes if I disturb the frag.

Aptasia X works for me. I had a few and treated them all at once. Gone. They still pop up from time to time and I let them be until they are big enough to get the surgical strike without them ejecting their spawn. It’s tricky but effective
