Aqua 25 watt uv on a 220g

Got this 25w aqua UV I’m wondering if even if it’s undersized for my system, will it still do the job?

mainly for killing pest algae and for water clarity. Not too worried about parasites, as I’ve never had any issues. Knock on wood


it’s a 220 display with a huge sump. Not sure exact water volume yet. Will it work or at I better off not even using this thing?

It says it’s good for up to 150g on the BRS site

I would go by the manufacture... here is their chart:

It will only kill what goes through it so it won't effect say GHA or cyano on rocks, etc.

Undersize IMO, big believer of the 3 gallons:1 watt ratio, I have a 200 gallon system w/ a 80w UV

If you already have the UV… it will still help clarity and such but turnover will be lower so impact may be less.

I have a 55w on my 80g and my tank still not clear anyways as it does nothing for the sand particles the fish toss around

I know the system is undersized. I wanted to know if it will kill algae and give me some water clarity.

Everywhere I read says at least a 57w for a 220, that chart says a 40w is good.


Maybe I’ll just sell it and try to get a larger UV

lol well it won’t help ya there!

i would try it and worst case add another one.
i run 2 80 watt at about 1300 gph and a 40 watt at about 2700 gph on my 300 gallon predator tank.
i run a much bigger unit on our 1500 gallon lagoon .
uv +ozone+big skimmer = easy button.

Given manufacturers are mostly on the very optimistic side of sizing you should take a manufacturers recommended size as the bare minimum.

I don't think that size UV would be useful on your size tank.
