How noisy is this skimmer, is it too loud to be able to sleep 13 feet away from? If it is really loud is there another HOB protein skimmer that's considerably quieter, for a 34 gallon tank? Thanks in advance.

Too loud for a bedroom IMO. I tried one on a bedroom tank and had to put it on a timer to only run during the day. I suppose some people could tolerate it though. I had one in my living room and could hear it but it didn't bother me. I sold it to a guy who said it was too loud and wasn't tolerable so he removed it. I don't know if there is one out there that makes less noise though.

Hmm ok, so if I were to only run the skimmer for say, 8 hours, it would still fully function? Like I hear skimmers need to "break in", so this wouldn't hinder that right? Thanks.

Mines not too bad, I have the AquaC Remora with the MaxiJet 1200 and the pre-skimmer. I've been told you might be able to put a sponge over the intake area to quiet it a bit more.

Break in just gets a good slime on the pumps and insides. I also think skimmer break in is a bit overrated. A good, properly tuned skimmer will begin to collect waste almost immediately. My Aqua c collected a good bit of waste even though it was on a timer. The Aqua c pro with the mag pump is worth the extra $ if you can get it.

Ok, one more question, should I go for the nano with a cobalt 900, or the s with a cobalt 1200. It's only for a 34 gallon which will have 3-4 small fish max, and easy to keep corals. Maybe a couple easy sps eventually. I'd rather go with the nano as it's smaller and cheaper, but if there's any benefit to having the larger ill probably just get that. Thanks

I always go with the biggest skimmer that will fit on my tanks. Some will disagree with me but I don't think you can over skim a tank. Bigger gives more room for error.

As an example, I use the regular one with the maxijet 1200 on a 29 gallon standard. It is rated up to 75 gallons and I get a full cup about every 3-4 days, but I also skim wet on purpose. My skimmate is usually a dark brown.

Alright I went ahead and placed an order for the aquaC remora s, with a cobalt 1200 pump. It comes with a foam pad that's supposed to quiet it down, thanks for the help guys :).
