So after many positive reviews and the £40.00 price point I purchased the aqua knight 30w led fixture. The colours are great and the fan is whisper quiet, however I have had bit of an issue. The 24v AC/DC converter (similar to that on a laptop charger) gets red hot hot. The surface under the converter even seems hot. It doesn't burn my skin but becomes a bit uncomfortable in my hand after holding for around 10 seconds. At the end of the day to me it seems a hazard.
My tank is only 10l and will be stocked with LPS and zoas, so anything else at that price point will be great- unless the heat from the converter is normal, which it this point i'm pretty sure it isn't. I've even put a heatsink under the converter and its still hot.
I could do with something at £70.00 max. I like the idea of par38 bulbs but there pretty scarce in the UK and the bulb holders are still from China so it would still not fill me with confidence in terms of safety. I would like a keisel but im really not going to afford one anytime soon and my tank is in the final stages of cycling.
