Is there a limit on how much I mix Aqua Forest Magnesium? I reached out to them and they mentioned I can mix 3 times the advertised amount to 1 litre of water so instead of mixing 10g to 1 litre, I could mix 30g to 1 litre. But is there any chemical issue going say 5 times?

Without knowing exactly how they formulated it, and how much calcium impurity is in it, I cannot say for sure, but it is likely that you can mix it very concentrated, and I’d just try and see if it makes a clear solution, which means the strength is fine.

That said, there is not usually any reason to need super potent magnesium additives. Why do you need it?

Hi, many thanks for the info. I have made it 4 times normal strength and it mixed up clear so will see how that goes.
For some reason, my magnesium levels keep dropping. A month or so back, I noticed my red monti loosing its colour drastically and checked my Magnesium levels which had dropped from 1400 to 1250. I started dosing Magnesium thinking it would bring the levels back up which it did for a day but I have been having to dose daily just to get it to around 1300. I am using your 2 part and Aquaforest Mineral salt (with Magnesium added) with Aquaforest Component strong. I dose 10ml a day of that so cannot understand what is burning through the Magnesium in my 75l nano. I have tried dosing Aquaforest Magnesium at recommended mix but it has needed 50ml per day to maintain levels.
I have tried 2 different test kits and both read the same. Since dosing this level of Magnesium, the colour of my Monti's is great! I will try 4 times strength at 15mls a day and see what happens

Real magnesium consumption can’t really be much more than 1/10th of the calcium consumption, so 1 or 2 ppm per day is about as high as it gets. But low salinity will readily show in low magnesium.

Interesting, would low salinity also show low calcium as well as calcium is reading 430. I have used a Hanna salinity checker and a refractometer. I will recalibrate the hanna, it reads 35 and the refractometer just under the 35 line.

Everything drops by the same factor when you change salinity (except pH and ORP). Things that start very high, like magnesium, drop more in ppm.

If you start at 35 ppt, sg = 1.0264 and drop the sg to 1.025, then you'd see changes like these:

calcium 420 ppm --> 398 ppm
magnesium 1300 ppm --> 1231 ppm
alk 8 dKh --> 7.6 dKH

Thank you. Mixing Aqua Forest Magnesium 4 times strength seems to have maintained the Magnesium level in the last 24 hours dosing 15ml a day so will keep an eye on that.

Thanks again.

Sounds good.

Happy reefing. :)
