Finally got around to mounting a few of my frags on these things and was wondering what others think about them.

Any pics of Frags that have been mounted for a while? Hopefully growing from the glass? I'll try and get some pics of mine tomorrow.

Forgot to include a link for those that weren't familiar with them http://www.aqua-mags.com/

I'm up to ~15 Frag-Mags myself.

The magnets they sell now are even stronger than the older "Large" size magnets (they used to come in small, medium, and large). They're plenty capable of holding a small colony. When I bump into mine, they just spin rather than disconnecting.

I like to glue live rock rubble to the magnet, and then glue frags to the rubble.

ive got some large colonies on them; the yellow caroliniana on the back wall is on one, as is the blue stag on the left

I'm not sure what it is. An acro frag that I got from David (fishboarder) prior to his tank crash. It looks 10x better from the top down view.

And a green leather that Craig fragged for me.

what is that?

he actually got that from me before my tank went bad. not sure what it is, but it's one of those pieces that looks a lot better from the top than from the side. the colony it came from was pretty big. looks a lot like the aquadelight.

Green, purple, and white. You'll be able to get a nice view at the tank crawl on Sunday. I keep it high up so it's clearly visible when I turn off the pumps. It's pretty sweet and one of the underappreciated SPS in my tank.

Sorry for being off topic, but Anthony, what is the scientific name of that black/white wrasse in your tank? I've been looking for one. Got a link to any info? Thanks.

What a great idea! It sounds like you've been doing this for sometime now.
Are the mags leaching any toxins (I'm assuming you seal them)? By the looks of your tank the answer would be NO :). I've in the pass have done something similar by using clay (fired of course) and glued the piece to the back. After it incrusted to the clay and back of the tank - very hard to remove!

Tank looks wonderful!

if you are talking about the copper from the rare earth magnets, the answer is no. the magnets are encased in some sort of resin. so they aren't coming out unless you physically try to remove those magnets with a knife or something.

FWIW....there was a huge thread on RC a while back about the fragmags rotting out the inside of the corals. something to do with the black gravel like substance you mount the coral to. i just took off a coral that has been growing on a frag mag for about a year and a half....it was an ORA aussie delicate colony I needed to transfer to a stronger frag mag. when i looked at the base of the coral after i took it off........it looked completely normal. no signs of any black or rotting center. :)

so frag mags are completely safe IMO.
