Going to do some remodeling in our home so I moved my reef to the garage. Have moved a few freshwater tanks over the years but this is the first time moving a reef tank. Was not fun although the move went smooth.
Left just a bit of water to keep all the shrooms on the bottom glass wet.

Tank was dry for maybe a half hr so all of my coralline is now bleached. I know it will eventually grow back. I’m wondering if there will be alk spikes from it flaking off? Any other things I should keep an eye on?
Almost all the coral looked like nothing happened the next day, except my GSP! GSP is still mad and totally closed up.

Why is it that the aqua scape never goes back EXACTLY the way it was before!?? Lol

Been a few days since I moved the tank. Everything seems back to normal!

Black sponge that hitched in awhile back. Some say if sponge is exposed to air that it will die. Hopefully not cause I’m kinda liking it!

House torn up for remodeling still. Tanks in garage, No AC in the garage. 84 F is highest I’ve seen so far for tank temp. Going to add more fans today. Getting frozen water bottles ready. Forecast For today is 110 F !!!

tank temp back to normal range. Everything appears to be ok.

@fishguy242 I have a lot of mouths to feed! Adding bottles, yes bottles, of phosphate is something I never thought I’d be doing!!

I glued this piece of rock with the coralline and small mushroom about 10 months ago. The mushroom has grown, moved around some and has left some boogers.

The coralline has not spread. I would really like to know why? All 4 panes of glass, power head and everything else is growing coralline. This Rock though, nope. That rock has been in my tank for 6 years. It should be covered by now!!!

Always nice when a mushroom produces clones :)

As for the coralline not growing on the rock, that's a strange one. Just guessing, but it could be that your rock has some type of periphyton that is good at excluding it from growing...or the species of coralline that you have just isn't attracted so much to calcarious substrates (which would be odd, but who knows)? Maybe try to get some samples of different coralline species from anther tank or purchase a coralline starter culture and see if that works.

Really the only thing that makes sense. I did glue 2 pieces of coralline, pink and purple. Neither one is spreading. Also have a red coralline and there is a small patch growing on this rock. If the red is all that I can get, I’ll take it! Better than algae!! Lol

Ahhh crap, Ok i’m gonna slowly get rid of what I don’t need in the tank, would you recommend running one thing over the other? or a combination? I have no skimmer on the tank so i definitely over compensated with chemical media.
With our small tank size it’s really easy to keep nutrients levels in check with water changes. Mostly I run small amount of Rox carbon and that’s all. Sometimes I’ll use a filter pad for water polishing after blowing rocks off.

Nothing lasts forever, although I did get 7 to 8 years out of it!! My HOB filter finally stopped working.

I used to keep it clean, then one day I’m like hey, this is starting to look like an algae scrubber!!!

See the black “thing” in the mouth? Could not figure it out for a couple months. Then I was able to get a hold of it the other day. I think it was what was left of a bug! Acan decided it was not tasty and had been slowly spitting it out!!

That is one slimy mess!
Ha! It’s usually not that bad. Better in the over flow than my tank! Was experimenting with Reef Roids, gives my tank cyano it seems.

might possibly be manufactured?
Almost positive it’s from the exoskeleton of this bug.

They are a everywhere on warm days and I sometimes need to retrieve them from my tank. The fish will not eat them either!

Neat bug. Per an older study I read, coral in lving in a near-shore reef got around 3% of their nutrition from insects blown in.

Need to do some trimming of Xenia and the GSP. Thinking I need to move the Kenya also. Not sure how though, it’s firmly attached to rock.
