After you fill the body of the skimmer with water and start the pump, take the air intake tube (the yellow one) off of the silencer and stick it in some water. You can stick it back into the body of the skimmer or use a cup, it doesn't take long for the pump to prime. Supposedly you can get the pump to prime by pinching the air intake hose closed, but I have always had to put it in some water
Good luck.

Thanks, did what you suggested, it's doing better, do you have this skimmer? If so do you like it?

Yes, I've been running one for maybe a year and it seems to be a good little skimmer.

Thanks, it's doing a good job so far if I can get rid of the micro bubbles.

Easiest way to prime the skimmer is make sure the skimmer is filled half way with water first then you can prime the skimmer by either pinching the yellow air intake hose (which can take a bit) or the faster way would be to suck on the hose which creates a syphon then pinch it till the water level rises and reaches the return to the tank. You don't need to suck too much or you'll end up with saltwater in your mouth. Also don't leave the hose pinched too long after the water rises or it will overflow the skimmer. Place the hose back on the air silencer once primed and you should be all set. These are great skimmers. Best of luck with yours!
