Hi guys, thinking about getting an aqua one minireef 90 for my first saltwater tank. This is bigger than my first plan, of just a 20g tank, so I'm trying to readjust my plan lol!

Does anyone recommend it?

It's quite pricey, espically as I've heard that a lot of the equipment is not the best, so it seems like I'm paying 950nzd just to get a sump and tank. But there isn't much option here in nz and this is the best thing I've come across.

Would it be better to get the minireef 120? It's only a $250 difference in prices and you get another 30l, but I'm worried that it would take up too much space and I'm also meant to be moving out in like a year.

I've already bought my own skimmer. It's a bubble magus QQ1. I've heard bad things about the minireef skimmer, so should I just remove it from the get go and use this one?

Does anyone know sump volume? Apparently the display tank is 90l, and I assume the sump volume isn't included in that figure, but I can't find anything anywhere about the size of the sump.

What return pump, if any, do you reccommend?

Is a refugium possible? If I remove the skimmer, maybe I could use that space in the sump?

Does my stocking list change?
2x occelaris clowns
1x yellow clown goby
1x bangaii cardinalfish
1x BTA
1x cleaner shrimp
also snails as CUC
Can I add anything else? Maybe a royal gramma or another blenny?

First dude/ette if you're moving wait till after the move. Reefing is a long term hobby. By the time you get this setup, stabilize it and start enjoying it, it'll be time to tear it down. Wait till after the move.

That's also an odd size tank. Like 23.xish. gallons. Maybe it's a metric thing. Your sump is gonna be tiny and tiny sumps are a pain, in my experience. I mean a 10g( ~40L) is half the size of your display. At such a small volume I'd just get a hang on back skimmer, either get a sand heater or someway to hide it. Forgo a sump altogether. Your refugium would be like what 10L max if you made it in the sump?

On the flip side it's a small tank. A nano reef. Lose the anem, don't really need it and by the time the tank is acclimated again you're moving.

I mean if all you want is a nano then cool beans man do it up. The best thing that you could invest in is an auto top off. My 10g failed because I could not be bothered to refill it frequently enough and the pram swings killed the tank.

My 1st thought was the same tank but knowing I'd want to upgrade sooner or later I went straight to 120 minireef.
Now I want bigger and already aiming, make that priming my wife for a 255 or 326.
Moral is get as big as you can afford. Buy the minireef since it comes with all you need to start.
My 2 cents

I've got a aqua one 300 and after 9 months still using the stock skimmer that come with the tank and it works OK for me,I've only got photos on Web of other skimmers to compare as never owned another kind but mine takes out green/ brown goopy crud so it's doing its job in my eyes.good luck
