I am in the process of researching an upgrade of my existing Viperspectras black box LEDs (2). Actually, moving them over to my 55 gallon FOWLR and looking to upgrade my 90 gallon reef. I have liked the Vipars for what they have been, but the multiple channel control, ramping and Cree LEDs are something that I want to move to with this upgrade.

I know...Radion, Kessil, etc., but I'm trying to choose between the RB Photon V2 and the AS Plus R120. Really leaning towards the AS, because of replaceable LEDs, better controllability (ramping up/down) and what looks to be a little better shimmer, probably because of the clustering of LEDs...But I'm really looking for feedback from some folks that either own then or have seen them.

Any and all information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well...I went ahead and purchased the Aqua Sanrise Plus R120. It should be here next week and I'll provide an initial review and then a longer term review and comparison to my existing "black box" setup, as there is just not enough out there on this light. Logan from Reef Breeders was very helpful and responsive to my questions (via this forum), so wanted to pass that along, as well. Looking forward to appreciating the higher end aspects of LED reef lighting!

I just got my a month ago and just added SPS. Boy, these light are powerful. I went a little to high and SPS started to bleach and lost a few frags. I lower the whites to 30% and blues 55%. I'm still playing with them but these lights have a lot of option to play with. Hopefully I'll have them so SPS start coloring up. I think your really like them.

I use the Aquasanrise R120 over my display refugium. I have only had it up for about a week, but no complaints so far. I run mine at 100% in all channels for a good chunk of the day, but I have seagrasses trying to grow. When I used it as a temporary light over my SPS tank after I sold my T5s, I think I was overly cautious and set the intensity too low. The corals stopped growing, I had a massive alk spike, and almost everything died. I was only maxing out at 30% in all channels.

The app works well and the internet connectivity is strong (especially compared to all the troubles I had with my old Hydra HDs). I also like the functionality of the ap. I'm sure they can grow SPS, but I would probably recommend setting them up with a PAR meter.

hi, i know this is an old thread but how are you liking it since you have owned it for a few months now? i'm contemplating about this or Photon V2.

does the Sanrise do ramp up and down? meaning that if you go from 0% to 50%, does it ramp up to 50% all at once or does it do it gradually?

I love the R120. I currently have it over my display refugium/lagoon/anemone tank that is attached to my SPS tank. It has all sorts of features and ramps well. It certainly appears to have more than enough PAR to make the seagrasses and anemones happy.

thanks @Husker. does it have the ramp up and down feature?

Yep. It ramps up and down nicely. You can also PM Logan from Reefbreeders and I am sure he will be happy to answer any other questions. He was really easy to work with on my end.

The blending of colors isn't as great as some very high end LEDs, but it looks good to me next to my T5/LED tank (which is my number 1 preference). Great light for the money, I think.

just got my light yesterday and i'm having an issue with connecting to the wifi STA mode. any of you encountered similar issue?

also for some reason although the outside packaging box says Aqua Sanrise, the inside box with the manual and even the LED screen when turned on says Spectra.

Are you guys seen red light toward the end of the fixture that’s facing the power supply?
For some reason when everything is 0%, there’s a source of red light

Try to turn off 'lamp lights' in the app

The red light your seeing can be turn on and off. Setting it up is a little tricky. Follow each step and make sure you connect wifi to your modem. Are you using your cell phone?. If so make sure your phone communicate with sanrise. Must add code 12345678.

Digging up an old thread here!

I’ve got a Spectra Helios R120 (Used to be called the Aqua Sanrise R120) and was wondering if anybody could share their lighting schedule?

the default out the box seemed to want to run pretty much 24/7 so I’ve modified it but not sure I’ve got it right!
Thanks

Thanks very much.
You says “was my schedule” are you not using the light any more?
Did you have good results with it?

so i used it for a little over a year with good result.

the reason why i switched is because some people in my reef vicinity convinced me to get 3x Radions G4 pro (due to my tank size....i have the 60" helio), which i did. after comparing the two brands, i can say that radions are slightly better but not by much in my opinion.....i kind of regret the decision of switching over.

did you buy the light recently? i have been trying to reach out for some help but it doesn't look like anyone's selling them as a vendor. i bought mine from ReefBreeder when they were carrying it.

Yer, I bought it a couple of months ago. I’m in the UK, bought it from Marine Farm.
