Hey all.

How important is it to leave room behind scaping, and if it so, how much room? I am new.

Is it just for flow? Or for cleaning. Dose it matter? Both?

Going to be adding sand and crushed coral.

For me it was important for both. Also, it has been inevitable that it was in the back that fish go to hide and die. So, I like room in the back to look for inspection.

It is for both reasons that you mentioned but since you have a bowfront, your options are limited. I personally think your scape looks good as it sits.

Very important. You wouldn't believe how much detritus accumulates back there. I reaquascaped a tank I had up for about 12 years with with rock on the back. When I removed the rocks I was picking out detritus in large clumps. I re-scaped for flow but would have never even known it was there if I hadn't lifted the rocks. On top of that I removed enough rock from a 30g to start a biocube 14 and still have a 15g tub with the rest.
My aquascape now is dead center front to back with 3-4" on the sides. Reasons: flow all over, access to cleaning rear glass, access to siphon and clean the rear bottom (bare bottom), fish can hide without completely disappearing, more swimming space.
