I went to my lfs and had them test my water using the aqua spin b/c I am battling a bad case of hair algae. My nitrates are high which I recently did a water change on Sunday. I wanted to reach out and see what needs to be done to get everything online before I start dosing either reef flux or vibrant to combat the hair algae.

your nitrates are high (they seem lower when the algal blooms happen), you could be overfeeding.

your phosphates are not zero. The GHA is consuming the phosphates so first get them down. Water change for phosphates will only get them out of the water column, most likely they are bond to the rock.

Manually remove as much as possible, combined with some water changes and you should be ok.

Does the spin not read phosphate below 1.0ppm? I only ask because it says phosphate is 0, but if you're having algae issues, there is probably phosphate in the water.
