Hi guys.

Decided to add a UV steriliser to my Aquaone minireef 120. 120liter (32gal) display and 20liter (6gal) sump

is the Aqua Ultraviolet Twist 25W UV overkill for my system? My return pump does 800GPH at maximum flow, (flow can be adjusted) but im worried that even at maximum flow the UV will be too strong and kill off pods/phyto etc.

Depends on what your using it for fish disease or other issues ?

8 watts 24/7 would be fine for a system that size.

did you buy the 25 watt already?
Is there a watt/gallon recommendation? I'm looking at one for my 5g.

Do you have to go stronger for parasites?

Thanks for this!

I'm relatively new to UV, but having recently had a Dino's outbreak, I was reading a Dino's thread and they recommend 1 watt for every 3 gallons. Not sure how accurate that is, but you could possibly save yourself some money with the 15 watts instead.

Should I run is through my return as the flow is adjustable? or should I get a separate pump and run both intake and outlet in the sump

I think most people run it off of a return with a diverter and flow meter to ensure proper flow. For Dino's they recommend not recirculating into the sump but instead recirculating into the display (hang on side/back temporarily sort of thing).

So I ended up getting a aqua advance 2000+ 15w hang on steriliser. I was thinking of closed loop in the sump. My return is quite a high flow so im hoping itll work?
