I'm going to be installing a aqua uv 57 watt sterilizer. I have about 300 gallons of water. I'm trying to figure out what pump to use on it. I'm using it to kill dinos. It recommends around 1100gph but I see a lot of guys using a mj1200 and getting like 350gph. That seems pretty slow. What pump would you recommend? I will be running it vertically on the side in and out of the display.

The slower the better. In using a 40w aqua UV with about 250-280 gph. Going from the sump to the tank. I'm a ich management tank.

I assume you've already ID'ed your dinos with a microscope to ensure a UV will be effective. 80 watts of UV on my 270 is considered marginal for ostreopsis dinos, but did a pretty good job in under 2 weeks. dsI spent the first 7 days blowing off my rocks using a little Sicce pump with a 6ish foot long silicone hose on the outlet. I changed my filter floss just before and a couple hours afterward. At this point, I've got a little here and there and less daily.

I know it's $$$, but consider going with the 110 watt unit if your budget allows. It's a lot of punch in a fairly small package.

I haven't ID'ed it yet but I do know at night I don't see much and there is no bubbles. Which 110w unit are you referring to?

Doh! I meant 114 watt. I have the 80 watt, which is a joined pair of 40 watt bulbs running one one 80 watt ballast. The 114 is similar, but is a pair of 57 watt units. I got mine used or I couldn't have done it, but here's a link to a new one.
