I just pickup an Aquaclear 70 for $30 at PetSmart and wondered if anyone had any experience with these. I’m using it for my 37 Gallon tank and for the price I couldn’t say no. I see people swear by it but wondered if anyone had any negative experiences.

Im using one on my 10 gallon and it works great! I got the intank media basket and have had great filtration. I will say that the filter can be a little loud for some. My lid rattles a little bit. Im working on finding a solution other than just keeping the lid off all together.

Seems like it is rated for 300 gallons per hour, and is selling for up to twice that price, so the only downside I could see is if the water outlets are so strong it blows fish/coral around in a 37-gallon tank (?)

Embarrassingly I have a Topfin rated for the same gph and doesn’t blow fish around but wanted something with better biofiltration. So hoping this one works a lot better.

Glad you have good results. I keep saying the older ones are loud and newer one is quiet I got one of the newer ones comparing the packaging but I don’t mind if it works better.

I used aquaclears on all of my freshwater tanks since I didn't run sumps. They do have a small control range, so you don't have to have the max 300 gph. I'm not sure what the low end is, but it might still be too much. I've heard of people using them that high because they're basically taking the place of a powerhead with that much flow. The compartments are pretty large in the back and you can stack a good amount of media. I really, really liked them for freshwater.

I just set my fish food container on top of the lid and never had a problem. It was under a canopy though, so I couldn't see it, but made it easy to grab. Up to you if you don't like it sitting out.

Really glad to hear that, making me feel better. I haven’t run a sump yet as my biggest tank is the 37g. Working on a 60 but going canister route for that I think. I saw people giving it 4-5 stars and the occasional 1 and I always get concerned, cheers tho.

I hope it works well for you! 30 bucks is a steal! I havent noticed my fish getting blown around by the flow. Although Im sure my flow is far under the 300 gph due to the media basket having a filter pad, ployfil and a bag of chemipure in it. I also keep my waterlevel right around the bottom lip of the water discharge ramp.

The turnover some absolute serious amount of water, you'll get the flow you need to simulate a sump in raw turnover.

I ran 2 total, my brother had 2 and our friend had 1. Zero problems between all of us.

Don’t know if you ever shop at PetSmart but their mobile app lets you play a game that’s kind of like Candy Crush and if you get to the point cap you get a 15% off a 20% and a 25% off coupon good for any item in the store. Really worth it imo. If you already knew sharing for anyone who doesn’t know lol. Was able to stack that with a $10 off a transaction over $45.
