So I bought a tiny little aqua cultured yellow tang 2 days ago and he has been looking perfectly normal and eating like a little pig. I have read that aqua cultured fish are less likely to carry diseases or come with diseases I mean. I am wondering if I should use copper on this little guy. He is about 1 inch.

This is him while acclimating

Well, did he come from that actually aquaculture facility? Do they only do aquaculture or are there wild collected fish as well? Do you QT everything wet going into your tank?

I don’t know much about if it will have a less of a chance of a disease but I wouldn’t take that risk. All fish get QT for 1 month. I used to not QT but then I got ich so ever since I made sure the fish are disease free.

Should I treat with copper? Even if he’s so young and tiny and you can kinda see his insides?

If you like. Just make sure the copper isn’t too much. I have a purple tang that I added too much copper and he almost died. He wasn’t swimming nor was he eating after I added cooper. I let him sit there for 4 days then removed and he slowly recovered. Now he’s happy as can be being the boss of the tank. There’s also this a very popular process.

I treat all fish with copper. Too much risk for me in regards to my DT.

If the fish was bought at an LFS and was in a system where they keep both wild caught and tank raised fish it doesn't matter any longer at that point.

If you bought it directly from a facility that is strictly breeding fish with no exposure to wild caught fish there is less of a risk but still one that is not worth taking IMO.

100% concur

Treat with Copper Power at 1.75ppm using a Hanna checker to keep the levels steady. Therapeutic minimum level is 1.50ppm so if needed you can go down as little bit.
14 days in copper then transfer to sterile tank and then do two doses of either GC or Prazi for flukes 5-7 days apart.
Feed metro or GC laced food for the first 14 days to eliminate internal parasites.

Me three! And would add, that the size of the fish has no bearing on it’s copper tolerance :)
I generally agree, although some smaller juvenile fish just aren’t very hardy in general.
