Aquacultured SPS and Kalkwasser Dosing.

Are aquacultured SPS any more beginner friendly than wild ones? Would they be okay for newer tanks? Also, what’s the best brand of Kalkwasser out there? I see one by a company called Brightwell Aquatics. Thanks.

Imo aquacultured SPS can be more beginner friendly, it still depends on the species as well.
You have less chance of serious parasites on the coral too.

As for kalkwasser, just buy calciumhydroxide powder. Its very cheap and only adds alk and ca.
I see the brightwell product also contains Mg and strontiom, i would check these values every 2weeks or once a month and dose them seperately if needed.

Any aquacultured piece will be much more likely to survive in captivity than a maricultured or wild coral. That being said you still need to provide the proper conditions for any coral to do well. Aquacultured corals have thrived in captivity so would be much more forgiving when it comes to the captive conditions.

Good to know. Someday I’ll have a tank with all aquacultured fish and corals but for now that’s not possible, but yeah good to know they generally do better. What are some good starting SPS species (even in this case, going for aquacultured frags)?
