Hi all. I am planning to have a long cycle and take it easy throughout summer and start adding corals and fish (apart from my cleanup crew) around September. Looking at sand and I like the AF Bio Sand.. Do I need to add the bacteria which comes with the sand? Or can I not use it since I will have established stone with its own bacteria? Also I have seeen many adding sand to aquariums with water already in the tank.. can I add the sand prior to filling up the tank?

You can, but its not mandatory for sure....

I added it, just for sake of using bottles, and add sand in water.

If you dont use bacteria, then you can wash sand, put it in tank, and then add water.....

Thanks for the clarification.. wont be using the bottles then.. did you add the sand with tank full or empty? How did you find the sand?

Well in my case, i first add rock, then water, then sand few days later....

Everything was ready, sand was stuck in delivery, and didnt want to wait....

Really not sure if this bacteria bottles helped or not, tank was empty for months before first cuc or fish...

Sand like all sand, really nothing special to say, bit expensier than i like ;)

After washing it should I dry it out so I can put in tank so its easier to place as being wet would be harder. Sorry if stupid question but its my first time!
