I am in the process of changing to an @Aquaforest balling system, and have a question regarding the calcium and magnesium products. I've always maintained my system with a 3-part dosing regimen, and currently have quite a lot of calcium chloride and magnesium chloride hexahydrate left. These are pure, lab grade chems (calcium by Reef Crest, forget who makes the mag).

Anyway, I'm ready to place my order for all the aquaforest product I need, which includes the component strong, mineral salt, and KH buffer. Just wondering if it's ok to follow Aquaforests recipe using my calcium and mag that I already have on hand?

I would not due to the fact that the percentage of how much to use could be different, the amount to use could be different, and the same amount of each could be different. Too many variables to consider when using other products

Even though both products are just pure calcium chloride? It's not like they contain other elements

But what's the percentage of each calcium chloride? They could very well be different

Looking at the @Aquaforest calcium, it states that 10grams in 100L of water increases calcium by about 35 mg/L(ppm). When I look at reef crest, it states that 10.4grams of calcium in 100gallons of water equals an increase of 10ppm, a little math and 10grams of reef crest calcium in 100L of water, equals an increase of ~36.4 mg/L(ppm). I guess I'm answering my own question here, it seems fine...
