@Anirban the sun is shining and the parameters are falling into place... but at a snails pace lol
24 hours ago: Ca 450 Alk 8.64 Mg 1425
currently: Ca 445 Alk 8.64 Mg 1440
i won't dose anything today aside from my np pro and pro bio s.
tomorrow is generally the day i do my 10% water change. should i hold off a bit to see if we can't get things to fall a little further?
No dosing today and I will hold on to the water change at least till Monday. I want that Ca to hit 430 mark and the alk 8.3.

+1 on the no dosing

after modest changes yesterday we got some more satisfying test results today @Anirban
24 hours ago: Ca 445 Alk 8.64 Mg 1440
current measurement: Ca 445 Alk 8.32 Mg 1410
i'll my nutrient tests a little later and will post the result. it's just a little darker out than usual and i want good daylight for that finicky nitrate test. otherwise, won't be dosing anything aside from my biological and carbon source additives.
also, i managed to scoop a couple of nice frags yesterday so there are a couple new mouths to feed... albeit very small ones lol.

nothing too crazy over the past day @Anirban
24 hours ago: Ca 445 Alk 8.32 Mg 1410
currently: Ca 445 Alk 8.48 Mg 1410
i suspect the bump in alkalinity was probably more user error than an actual increase.

Lol.....again no dosing. Where is your NO3 and PO4 right now?

we're sitting at 1ppm nitrate and .07ppm phosphate.
you weren't kidding me when you said that the process was going to take a while to straighten out lol

There is no kidding in reefing...lol
I will like to see the PO4 a bit down in the 0.3 range. If you have not changed the GFO in a while you can do that now.

this is good news as i haven't run gfo for this entire re-boot to my dosing and my gha is unsightly. i will add some in my reactor today and 1/2 it's recommended amount to see where it lands us.

Throw the old one completely and add fresh half the recommended amount

today's measurements @Anirban
24 hours ago: Ca 445 Alk 8.48 Mg 1410
currently: Ca 440 Alk 8.0 Mg 1425
i kind of expected a little effect from adding the gfo to the system but wasn't expecting a .5dKH drop. i would guess we are going to be adding some Alkalinity but am unsure how much you want me to add.
also, i didn't take my nutrient measurements as it shows best under indirect daylight and there's a little overcast at the moment. if you like i can take them a little later.

some good dropping today @Anirban
24 hours ago: Ca 440 Alk 8.0 Mg 1425
currently: Ca 440 Alk 7.84 Mg 1380
Good, do you still have the Alk solution you made with you? Then add 170 ml of that and wait 24 hour. I want the Mg to drop a bit along with the Ca.

I agree those numbers are finally looking good! If your running UNLS then that Alk is perfect! [emoji6]

Just so you know I run CA 415ppm, Alk 7.8-8.0 and mag 1350-1380ppm
i was attempting to run ULNS but had a poor understanding of the theory and stressed my coral. since i have completely understand ULNS but have just been attempting to keep nutrients at around .5ppm with varying success (my nitrate has been floating between .5-1.0ppm over the past couple of weeks).
some other variables have been thrown into the mix as well with NP Pro and ProBio S entering the dosing scheme so things are adjusting accordingly but still haven't found their place.

Get ready with the components and doser we will start using them soon.

i'll go buy some fireworks today as well than because that is the day i've been waiting for over this whole process lol.
i do have a couple questions related to that too.
first, when i initially mixed everything i didn't have a digital scale and converted everything to tablespoons. after noticing the components have slightly different sized flakes i realized that they probably aren't meticulously measured and it has bothered me ever since.
also, i mix my components in a 5L container for each and have noticed my Calcium isn't the pristine clear color it once was and has taken a little bit of a brownish tint. do these things expire and should i consider ditching the remaining 2L of each component in favor of brand new, perfectly portioned solutions?

Lol...you can buy some fireworks. If you are talking about brown colour in component 1 which contain Ca then its actually iron which gets precipitated from the solution. Just give it a good shake each day and you are good.
