Trying to lower my P04
current P04 = 0.50
nitrates = 10ppm
calcium = 430
alk = 7
mag = 1110
Currently doing a 5g water change every other day removing detritus , blowing my rocks off 2 time a day . Cant make a dent in the P04 so I decided to try the aquaforest products to help reduce the P04.
Bought the :
Pro-bio S
Pro-bio F
NP- Pro
My question is should I run all 3 of these ? Or just run Pro-bio S + NP Pro ?
My filtration is just live rock in the sump + chaeto + vertex omega 150 skimmer , I dont run carbon or gfo as I never had an issue with high P04 . I added some corals from a tank teardown they were only in my tank for a couple days but I got some green sheet like algae started from them and has snowballed into what I have now . Dont want to add any new equipment so I would like to try the pro-bio/ np pro mthod to help control the P04 . Any input on running the 3 items listed would be great !!

How big is your system? Have you thought about trying their Phosphate Minus to get you to a better number? If you've kept a dirtier tank perhaps you have some PO4 bound up in the rocks...

I use the Pro Bio S and -NP Pro and I would give them a try. However, if your goal is to drop PO4 and keep detectable nitrates then you may have to dose Nitrate. It may be easier to use Phos Minus in addition in this case.

I agree. Carbon dosing like NP pro doesn't generally do an adequate job on phosphate and many folks use a binder (such as GFO) in addition to organic carbon dosing. At the least, some folks find they need to dose nitrate to keep the bacteria growing so they can reduce phosphate.

So information,
Pro Bio S- bacterial source which will use up your NO3 and PO4 and convert them to skimmable product or something that the corals can use up. Now Pro bios or the bacteria needs carbon source so NP pro supplies that. The Probio F is a mixture of both and generally recommended for nano tank. But this whole process will take time to establish and give results. At least a month or two.

And, as I stated, may not do the whole job on phosphate since organic carbon dosing like the NP is skewed toward nitrate reduction and often leaves residual phosphate even when the nitrate is gone.

so I will keep my eye on the nitrates in relation to he p04 . Will continue manual removal of detritus and blowing my rocks of , and I will stick to using the pro-bio s and the np pro for now . Will keep thread updated with my results .
