Being that this salt mix has bacteria in the mix, is mixing large quantities and having it sit around for a while an issue?? I normally mix up 40 gallons at a time, but only change out around 7 gallons a week. I was considering using this salt mix but I would think that the bacteria in the mix would starve before I used it all. I really don't want to mix water every week, any thoughts on this?? I would love to hear from people who are using this salt mix!!

I use HW marine mix, and I believe HW also has organics in it. I mix up water and it sits for up to a month with no issues from what I can tell.

Thats what I currently use, but I don't think it has the bacteria and stuff in it.

I have been using AF system for 9 months, I have switched from the probiotic salt to the reef salt bc of algae issues. But when I was using the Probiotic salt, you don't want to do more the recommended size water change (10 or 15%) with it (bc of the aminos and bacteria in the salt) and the longest I would keep it in the bucket was 2 days. Never went over that bc I think I heard someone say a long time ago to use it within 48 hours.

Well that sucks!! Guess I won't be switching to it then. How do u like their regular reef salt??

I really like just the reef salt.
I like to make enough water for 2 to 3 water changes so using the probiotic was out. I may buy their bottle probiotic but for now I'm very happy with just the salt.

I was using Red Sea Coral Pro and was happy with it. I got a batch that left a lot of grit on the bottom of my saltwater container. I wanted a cleaner salt and a fellow reefer (Diesel) suggested this.
Since changing I do not have to wash the bottom of the saltwater container. I really did not like the orange/brown sediment on the bottom of the water container. With this salt I have a very minute amount of sediment. I can't see unless I wipe with a white paper towel.

yea I like the regular reef salt, I still dose NP pro and Pro Bio S, plus the aminos and so on. Haven't felt the need to go back to the probiotic salt as of yet.
Yea I just ordered the bac, polymer, and aminos. Need to lower my alk though first. The HW reefer runs about 10 dkh so thats why I was wanting to change salt. Randy says the swing with 10 dkh change water and 8 dkh in the system, with only doing 7% water change is minimal. Maybe I will just stick with the HW.

Does anyone think it would be beneficial to use AF probiotic like a supplement and use it every few water changes to help keep bacteria and any other nutrients AF has to offer that other salts don't?... I started with instant ocean then switched to Tropic Marin witch I like better, no brown residue, mixes better and can sit longer than Instant Ocean.
