what are you opinions on this salt? what i've been reading is that the Probio version is good for SPS. am i correct? i am switching to something different. Been using Fritz for a little over a year but i'm not crazy about it. im leaning towards the Reef Salt version (not Probio)

any info would be great;

thanks
M

In some circles there is a lot of complaining about cyano or dinoflagellate issues once switching to the reef salt from things like IO. Personally I have seen some cyano creep up in one of my tanks running on the reef salt, but when I cut back on water changes it largely went away.

I'm probably going to just go back to IO when my boxes are done, not worth the price difference to me anymore and I pre-mix for a good 12-18 hours anyway so the mix time is of no benefit. Some love it, but I'll say it's no better or worse than the "salt average" if there is such a thing in the hobby.

ok thanks for the info guys. any recommendation on which route to go? i tried IO but i had to dose a ton so i want something thats a bit better on that part. i used Fluval salt for 2 years and it was awesome! i did get one bad batch and i ran from it but it seems like all companies have bad batches once in a while.

Af over here has had a few bad batches. I use it but have problems with magnesium (it's a little high at 1500 consistently and checked with icp and home tests). When I use the last bucket I have I'm switching back to probably red sea blue bucket as it's more consistent and where I want my levels to be.
I haven't had cyano but did see some dinos. Whether these are salt related or something else I'm not sure but I did reduce water changes and they dissappeared. I also lost some corals that I wouldn't have expected to and again I've seen other people saying similar. This is likely a problem with every manufacturer and anecdotal observations so I wouldn't let it stop you trying it.

I switched to Reef Salt from RSCP about a month ago. So far I am happy, its roughly the same price and it mixes totally clear within minutes. I've also noticed better coloration and PE in all corals since switching.
