Aquaforest RS vs Tropic Marin PR

Like the product description shows, I would have to start a separate dosing regimen from my 2 part dosing. $65 a bucket + $20 + tax for the system, costs more than a bucket of TMPR. Or you could look at it being the same. At this point, I'm just look for salt. Not a full balling or component system to create a magazine worthy tank.

My suggestion would be to start with the reef salt, that is what I am running still but thinking of switching to the pro bio salt just to see how it preforms over the reef salt. I have the 1+2+3+ on auto dosers along with the NP Pro. One of the nice things I like is that I do not have to mix part A and B nor kalwasser, everything is on auto and I do not have to be concerned about physical dosing.

My Products are Reef Salt $58 per year, 1+2+3 at 365 a year, but we now have the recipe for the mix and I can mix the 1+2+3+ for $195 a year. I also us the NP Pro in the 2000 ml size I have to get the exact price but I would say it is around $27.00 x 2 or $54.00 per year and I am going to do the math and set up my Pro bio S so that I can auto dose it and the should be around $60 a year. Cost per year to run the system for me is $367 and lest say a extra $50 for errors in math plus taxes.

Don't want to step on anyone's toes but I think I can help answer a few of these questions.

I started my switch by doing normal water changes with the probiotic salt. Once I had cycled through my tank after about 8 water changes over the course of 2 months then I began to dose the pro bio s and np pro . Those products are used to control phos and nitrate. It took about 2 weeks of dosing and my phos and nitrate came way down and are now exactly where I want them. The dosing of other components etc are a replacement for the big three like calcium , alk and mag. I've used kalkwasser to maintain levels via my ato and now I'm starting to switch off the kalk and to the components +1+2+3.

My intentions with using these particular AF products is to run an SPS tank. AF has other types of salt and components for all different types of tanks etc.... So dosing depends on the type of system you have and what your goals are.

What made you consider the regular RS over the PB?

Myself the reef salt was recommended and I started with the reef salt. The ProBiotic salt I was told at first has a shelf live of 24 hours when it is mixed with DI/RO, and after speaking with the AF rep they said that I is good up to 48 hours. The reef salt can be mixed and stored pre mixed. Since I do not store mix salt water there would not be any issue for me to use either.

I used tropic marin pro and shifted to AF reef salt from it. Tropic marin pro and af reef salt are almost same as alkalinity goes with a minor difference. AF salt is lower in Potassium content compared to Tropic marin Pro. Both are comparable as far mixing and other parameters goes. I actually shifted very slowly from Tropic marin Pro by slowly adding more and more reef salt during water changes. My system never showed any bad effect and my SPS growth till date is great including polyp extension.

I use +1,+2, +3, Pro BioS, NP PRO, twice a week Kalium and Fluorine. Alternate day I dose Vitamins.

Right now, I use Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt. I've been loving this salt since day one. Except for my last bucket. Parameters were slightly off with really high magnesium and slightly lower alkalinity. Not a huge deal but enough to question the extra $20 difference between the two.

Some things I like about TMPR -

• Consistency(usually)
• Mixes fast(20-30 minutes)
• @1.026 (Ca 450, Dkh 8.5, Mag 1340, pH 8.3ish)
• Doesn't leave residue

Does anyone have experience with TMPR and have you switched to Aquaforest reef salt?

Tropic salt is the best choice for ever I think. AF is not my choice.
