Aquamaxx 1.5 breaking in HELP

JUst installed this skimmer yesterday or Wednessday and it is just running wide open I am praying the overflow tube keeps up so it doesn't empty the tank on the floor

JUst installed this skimmer yesterday or Wednessday and it is just running wide open I am praying the overflow tube keeps up so it doesn't empty the tank on the floor

I ran an airline into the cup though the overflow tube and hole, into a bucket for the first day, had to create a vacuum by siphon at first then it drained into the bucket by itself. After a day it drained a bit into the bucket and no issues after removing the airline.
I also taped the lid down so it doesn't fall off, I still do this.
