Aquamaxx 1.5 HOB skimmer

Does anyone know if this fits on the aqueon rimmed tanks?

Its hard to tell from the pictures, but it doesn’t look like the 2 screws have much of a lip to hold the unit on with

Everything fit nicely? What are you thoughts on the skimmer? Any issues with it overflowing ever? I’m getting a lot of mixed reviews on them overflowing. I know HOB skimmers are risky and have the potential to overflow on the floor but it’s my only option at this point since I don’t have a sump

I've had some issues with that skimmer. Reef Octopus is usually pretty good and I only go with them now. I have an extra hob aquamaxx body that I'm still trying to think of a good use for.

Yes, they fit fine every time I've used them. I have had multiple HOB-1's and HOB-1.5's. I really like them. It would have to be a pretty rare case for it to overflow I would think. Even during the break in periods or when something sent them into overdrive they could never fill the cup faster than the drain would empty back into the body.

My advice with this is do not overtighten the screws on this skimmer.

I’ve also been looking into reef octopus as well but again have heard some stories of these overflowing as well lol

You can hookup a skimmate locker and shutoff the skimmer when it reaches max. You can also reverse the skimmate cup so it overflows into the skimmer. This skimmer can still overflow though if you are filling the cup too fast.

Reef octopus is usually good quality all around and has lots of addons for their skimmers. I've been considering an external skimmer from them for awhile.

Which RO would you recommend? I looked at the 90 and 100 which seem to have different build styles. I do like how the Aquamaxx has the overflow tube that goes back into the skimmer

I have a unit running on a 125 gallon and another on a 55 gallon tank. On the 125 I have to close the screws and the unit sits on top of the frame. On the 55 gallon tank the rim is thinner and the skimmer is able to sit lower and the two screws tighten it to the frame. Both ways it works very well. It can’t overflow due to the drain hose. You can run it into another larger bottle or let it drip back into the skimmer. When first used it can bubble up the cap on the collection cup if the tank is dirty, but that passes in a few days.
