AquaMaxx ConeS Q-2 for 75 gallo

shopping around for best skimmer i can get for my 75 gallon and looks AquaMaxx ConeS Q-2 is a great skimmer.
anyone own this skimmer? is it too powerful for 75 gallon?

That should work out fine.........if you have the room I'd do the Cone 3.

I'm a skimmer only type guy, so that's why I go as big as my sump will allow.

I have an original ConeS 3 for my 80g display.

Running a Cones Q-2 on my 120 with a 40B sump and it works great. It's not ninja quiet for the the price, I've got no regrets. Super easy to dial in.

I wouldn't go too big, you're better to be undersized than over. If it's too big for the bioload, you'll never get the thick foam and won't skim effectively. You'll have more of a wiggle room with a DC Skimmer.

I don't know where myths like this get perpetuated......they aren't true. Also, DC pumps offer nothing for skimmer enhancement. Quality skimmers are designed to match the pump and they all have flow control. Bubble height can also be changed with sump height.

A larger skimmer will take more out initially and it will stay ahead of the waste produced, that's why you may see less skimmate or more tea colored.

I've used skimmers at 3-4x the recommended sizing for 20 years and never had problems with them not working. They are the heart of my export systems and allow for less of the add on export tools.

Never said a quality skimmer will perform worse or wont do its job as compared to a DC skimmer. Just said it may officer easier way to dial things in other than water height...seems easier to push a button than play with water levels (depending on sump).

I don't have 20+ years of reefing experience so I'm going off of BRS vids.

As for my own personal experience, for what's it worth, my Cones Q2 on a 120 with 9 fish is for far more than enough and I only empty my cup once a week. But hey, this is a free country where one can do what he or she wants.

I see you read a lot and watch plenty of videos from marketers..........It might be a good idea to wait till your first tank is older than 4 months to comment on your skimmer's performance but whatever.......like you say it's a free country.

As I do not have much of my own experience to fall back on, I am left with doing reasearch of what's available to me, which includes BRS and such social database of aquaria knowledge as yourself.

If you would like to conduct some comparisons or maybe publish your own findings (data) on skimmer performance in your 20 years of reefing I would absolutely love to read it. I'm always looking to learn.

EDIT: marketing or not (I mean they are a business right?) , BRS actually cautioned new reefeers that you DON'T need to spend more on a BIGGER skimmer as it may be more than they need.
